Narcolepsy Symptoms
Understanding and Coping With Narcolepsy

Research On Narcolepsy

Extensive research has been done on narcolepsy. However, till today, no cure for narcolepsy has been found. Research on narcolepsy led to many benefits, information and advances especially in medical field. Researcher still continues to study more to search for more accurate and effective methods in terms of dealing with the narcolepsy symptoms.

Scientist and Doctors from all over the world are taking part on the research about the chronic disorder, narcolepsy. The research studies about narcolepsy were specially designed to gather all the important answers about narcolepsy disease, its newest approach of treatment, and the effectiveness and safety.

Specialist that was involved in narcolepsy research is trying to understand well about the possible causes. They study the patient with narcolepsy including their families and relatives looking for course, causes, effective treatment and clues of this disease. Recent discovery being held on families of dogs with narcolepsy are really helpful and gives quite great results in the studies. These researchers are also working so hard in the research to understand better about the physical, psychological effects and sleep mechanisms to develop more good method in measuring cataplexy and sleepiness.

There has been big awareness about narcolepsy recently. It was found that narcolepsy can occur since childhood and can develop certain behavior disorders. A group of scientist conducts a wide epidemiological study to know about the occurrence of narcolepsy in children aged two up to fourteen.

Based on research, there’s a 50 percent of narcoleptics, 80 percent of rapid eye movement sleep, and 87.5 percent of RBD patients suffers the abnormal sleep activity. Higher frequency of limb movements during sleep and awake in narcoleptics were noticed. This means that rapid eye movement sleep has similarities between RBD and narcolepsy. It also means that there is possibility of motor inhibition during rapid eye movement sleep. However, manifestations about the behavioral in rapid eye movement sleep occur less frequent. This proves that the idea that decreased dopaminergic abnormalities might contribute the wake states is accurate.

In making the narcolepsy research more successful, more volunteers are needed. These volunteers mean the narcolepsy patients themselves. They who volunteer not only will get more experience and information, but they will also have the potential to grab all the benefit from narcolepsy treatments. They also can make big contribution in medical science by helping researchers and doctors to understand better about narcolepsy, and so to help other who has the same problems with them. They don’t have to worry about any risk that they think might occur. Researchers and doctors took the safety in a very important consideration to protect volunteers.
