Sleeping disorder or narcolepsy is categorized in a chronic disease that cause patient to suffer sudden attacks of sleep and drowsiness.
It is difficult for people with narcolepsy to stay awake especially during the day time. In many cases, narcolepsy can be considered as an disability as these sleep attacks can disrupt the sufferers' lifestyle.

Narcolepsy is very dangerous and can cause serious distraction in people’s routine. Many people think that narcolepsy symptoms were seizure disorder, depression and lack of sleep. Narcolepsy is a chronic condition which may last as long as the person lives. 

Only certain medications, treatment and changes of lifestyle can help people cope with narcolepsy as there is no permanent cure for it. It is also advisable that they talk to their friends, teachers, and family about their disease so that people around them can help in overcoming these problems.

Unfortunately, many considered narcolepsy as a disability due to lack of understanding of this disorder. Narcolepsy may lead people with this disease to face serious problems in their personal life and professional field. Normal people who are not familiar with narcolepsy tend to assume narcoleptics as rude, lethargic and lazy. This can affects their performance in school or in work. 
 
People with narcolepsy are exposed to danger.  In some cases, the danger can be fatal. If the sleep attacks occur at the wrong time, such as when the sufferer is driving, handling hazardous machinery or cooking, the consequences can be serious.

Narcolepsy can cause problems in intimate relationships. Excessive sleepiness can cause low or no sex drive.  It is known that narcoleptics can suddenly fall asleep while making love. This will gives frustration to their partner, it’s hard for them to get involve in a serious relationship. This sexual dysfunction can bring about more problems such as emotional difficulties. Intense display of feelings such as extreme happiness and great anger can sometimes be the signs of narcolepsy and this caused people who are affected to refuse emotional interactions.

It is very difficult for people with narcolepsy to achieve their ambition. For example, the famous French cyclist, Franck Bouyer who had narcolepsy find that his disease is an obstacle when he were prevented from cycling because he was on treatment drugs that were strictly  banned in the cycle competition. If he doesn’t take the drugs, he might fall asleep during his cycles. So, this is a serious problem for him and other people with narcolepsy as well.

So, if you are suffering from narcolepsy, it is not the end of your career or should you stop going for your dreams.  There are many ways you can help yourself by reading and understanding this disorder.  There are many narcoleptics who are able to live a normal life.  You can start by modifying your lifestyle.Make a new schedule for yourself and stick to it. Try to go to bed and wake up at the same time each and every day, take naps as it can refresh you back and do some regular exercise for at least four or five hours before you sleep because this can make you sleep better at night and wake up freshly in the morning. Lastly, avoid alcohol,caffeine and nicotine especially at night as it can make your symptoms worse.

Take positive action now and it should be no problem for people who suffer from narcolepsy to do whatever they want and achieve in everything they do. Just keep on making effort in order to overcome any disabilities.
